These socks got a new life. For reinforcing weak spots in the knit, use duplicate stitch or Swiss darning. For fixing holes you can darn the area (as I did) or knit in a patch.

This is really handy. I have socks that I got from a sock swap for my husband that really could use a patch job.
This stitching is beautiful.
