Yo no bordo tonteras (I don't embroider silly things). I coined this phrase from what it's said to be the last interview of Violeta Parra (a Chilean folklorist). She actually said “I don't sing silly things”, referring to the value, meaning and importance of her compositions. I love the courage behind these words, so I've adopted it as my motto: work on and create meaningful things.
This embroidery is what I show my students as a stitch sampler and inspirational piece. I ask them to work from here, using as much stitches as they can, and to coin their own phrase of what embroidery (or any other creative activity) means to them. I can't wait to see what they come up with!
